Many Worlds reward

15 Weeks

As part of a successful crowdfunded project, I generated a reward of a linocut relief print about the joy and purity of the sport of basketball. Linocut as a medium provided a rawness and imperfection through the mediums’ idiosyncrasies, which I wanted to relate to inexperience, practice, and fun.

I prepared my illustration digitally and turned it into outlines to prepare it for a 1mm needle CNC cut.

I used another plate, one linocut plate and another cut from cardboard for textured clothing.

Reflections of plates at a stage became a confusing and frustrating experience, especially since I made the same wrong plate 2x…oops

The durability of the material is weak to drenched water and bulges. The thin 1mm edge is also susceptible to tear, from rough wiping. From the beginning, I should have been more gentle in the care to provide longer durability for future use.

A ‘dummy print’ solution…I finally discovered to use a dummy print of the CNC cut plate and use it as a guide to place the player and other plates, with the stock material taped on the dummy copy.
